When it comes to losing weight or changing the state of our health we all have tons of excuses as to why we’re not taking action. Nearly 100 percent of us say we’re just one day away from taking that step but rarely ever follow through.
Tomorrow I am going to start an exercise routine.
Tomorrow I am going to start eating healthier.
Why does it always seem to be that tomorrows the perfect time to start. I think I’ve boiled it down to three main reasons, or to be more blunt “EXCUSES”. Let’s dive in and see if you can relate to one of these road-blocks that may be holding you back.
1. Limited Time
Most of us use being limited on time as an excuse. “I don’t have the time to exercise” “I don’t have the time to cook and eat healthy” I’m just too busy. Look, there is 168 hour in a given week and you only need to dedicate 3 to 4 of those hours to yourself in order to achieve your health goal.
So, if you’re watching TV for an hour a day, trending on twitter or posting on Facebook then saying you have no time is simply saying you’d rather devote your time to a virtual world rather than your own.
2. Hereditary Factors
A lot of us still believe that the predisposition of our health is primarily predetermined, that our genetics or hereditary factors play the major role. But science firmly points out that only between 10 and 20% of the outcome is inherited. This leaves the majority of the state of our health in our own hands.
So, this way of thinking will literally keep us from breaking the cycle of our history by believing we’ve been cursed. This subconsciously gives us permission to take no action. As paralysis from taking action sets in it will ultimately hold us back from changing the landscape of our future based purely on the false belief of our history.
3. Ideal Time
Many of us tell ourselves that tomorrow or next week will be the perfect time to start. Maybe you’re speculating on a time when the kids go back to school or when life slows down just a little more or when business or work is more manageable.
Anyone that’s waiting for the ideal time to hit the gas and make a change will be waiting forever because there is always the next big thing happening in life or that next big event that will be holding you back. There is never a better time than right now TODAY.
We must all come to realize that there is never going to be an ideal time. You are always going to be challenged with the next big obstacle, event or issue. Equally so, you must also realize that you’re not going to go from level one to level ten with your health goal.
Whether its losing weight, eating healthier or staring a fitness program, remember, slow transitions done repetitively will help you create new healthy habits that will last. These small repetitive steps will ultimately lead you to the victory of your success.
